What is Adware and How Can You Tell If You Have Them?

Adware is software that continuously but randomly pops up adds to product or services. Ranging from virus software to adult content. The pop ups can even occur when you are not even on the internet. You could be reading a document or on the internet getting email and step away from your computer and an adult add will be displayed full screen on your computer. And sometimes with very loud audio This can be very embarrassing if you have company and your computer is on or if someone would like to use your computer. It is also extremely bad if you have small children that are present or use the computer since the ads can not be monitored. The ads pop up randomly. And sometimes the Adware adds are displayed behind what you are currently working on (these are called Pop Unders) and you will not know they are there until you have closed the program or browser you are currently using.

Other forms of adware are home page hijackers. These Adware programs take over your homepage to display a site that they are promoting and will block you from changing it. This can be extreamly annoying, especially if you have a home business and would like your businesses homepage or email to always be displayed when your browser is started. Theses types of Adware will also put tool bars or search bars at the top of your browser, If not removed they will build up, slow down your internet speed and block the content of your browser so much so that you will have to scowl to read even the shortest of emails.

Although Adware is not usually harmful like spyware and viruses are to your computer they can be a nuisance and will degrade your internet browsing and over all computer experience.

How To Remove Adware For Good

There are a few free programs out there that you can use to remove any Adware you may have but we recommend purchasing a good reliable Adware Blocker. Click here for our recommended product.  Free versions of Adware removers are nice but will not allow for you to block the Adware programs from infecting your computer in the first place. So if you want to remove Adware from your computer forever you really need to bite the bullet and purchase one.

Once you have downloaded and installed an Adware removing program run a full scan several times until no more adware programs are detected. Once you have done that reboot your computer into safe mode (Click the following link to our post on fixing a slow computer and how to boot into safe mode) and run it again. If more are detected then run the program until there is no more Adware.

After your computer has been cleaned make sure to have your Adware blocker running whenever using the internet. It actually may be best just to leave it running all the time so that you wont forget to run it when connecting to the internet.  It will alert you if an Adware program is detected and will block it from being installed.
